The purchase of Bentley in the late 1990’s by the Volkswagen group came just at the right time. The image and name was still at the very forefront of luxury motoring and the infrastructure was all still there, but a lack of fresh design and more importantly new customers, meant that the brand was in danger of becoming stagnant. The fresh injection of ideas, money and direction meant that the brand would soon once again stand at the very front of the luxury car market. Fears that the brand may loose its ‘Britishness’ were soon forgotten on the launch of the Continental GT coupe. The 6-litre turbo charged GT was a car that would transform the company. The combination of beauty, power, refinement and a new ‘affordable’ price tag saw the £115,000 GT fly out of showrooms around the world. The model also had two other significant effects; firstly, the average age of new customers dropped significantly. And secondly, it also gave a fresh definition in the market place to the now revamped Arnage T. Bentley was on the up!

Following on from the overwhelming success of the Continental GT, the company then launched the four-door Continental Flying Spur. Based on the GT, the Flying Spur revisited the traditional Bentley values of big saloons, but in a modern package.

The success is sure to continue with the launch of the convertible versions of both the Arnage and the GT. A re-launch of the Azure, the new drop-head Bentley is a truly beautiful car whilst the GT now looks better than ever in its new GTC guise.
