Rolls Royce Insurance When they first met in 1904, it was clear that Henry Rolls and Charles Royce shared a like minded approach to engineering. Within a few months, their first car was produced, it was a car that shared their vision of luxury and engineering excellence, it was a car that also shared one other very important ingredient – their names. Soon after, in 1906 the Rolls Royce Motor Company was born and the Silver Ghost was unveiled to the world. Within a year, the car was hailed as ‘the best motor car in the world’ it was an adage that was to define the company from that point forward.
Throughout their long production history, Rolls Royce has always produced cars without compromise. Of course, this production ethic comes at a cost, and not only were their cars considered the best in the world, but also the most expensive. This combination of luxury and exclusivity meant that the Rolls Royce became the car of choice for Royalty, Heads of State and Film Stars around the world.
Working from their headquarters in Crewe, the company produced cars right through until the late 1990’s along with Bentley with whom Rolls Royce had by now joined forces. Unfortunately, by this time, Rolls Royce Motor Cars had become a rather stagnant and seemed to be lacking new ideas and direction. When Bentley and Rolls Royce were sold to the VW Group, it was the Bentley name that was of most interest to the new owners and so Rolls Royce was passed to the ownership of BMW.
With the prestigious German manufacturers now pushing the company forward, the Rolls Royce was a company reborn. They moved from Crewe to a brand new, state of the art, and purpose built factory in Goodwood and it was from this factory that the new Rolls Royce Phantom was born. Much like it’s original predecessor the Silver Ghost, the new Phantom was a car that would once again bring the title of best car in the world back to it’s home - Rolls Royce.
